About UR-CSE

Numerous opportunities are available for the Case undergraduate engineering students to become active in research. These opportunities are available both on and off campus.

The Case campus hosts a variety of quality research experiences with tremendous depth and challenge. Opportunities exist on campus for students to participate in undergraduate research experiences. Participation in undergraduate research projects serves to enrich the students' curriculum. Students gain first-hand knowledge and exposure to the field of research. All undergraduate students, freshman-seniors, may participate in the OCEEA UR-CSE program.

The OCEEA UR-CSE serves as the centralized office for the Case School of Engineering to coordinate, develop, and expand undergraduate research opportunities, in coordination with the Office of Undergraduate Studies.

Faculty will identify undergraduate research opportunities in their respective departments. Students may apply for these positions and gain experience in the world of research. Faculty have the opportunity to interview the prospective applicants and determine the best candidate for the research project.

Graduate students play a major role in mentoring and training undergraduate students. This collaborative approach promotes an exchange for undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and in some cases, various organizations.

Undergraduate students are exposed to the field of research which often serves as an entrée to co-op and internship experiences and is good preparation for graduate studies. The undergraduate research experiences are designed to enable students to work on team projects and interact on a multidisciplinary level.

Students are responsible for maintaining reports on their research projects, developing a poster display, and conducting a presentation to the faculty, each semester they are involved with research experience. The research experience on campus may either be for pay, credit, or voluntary experience.

In addition, research experiences off-campus may also be coordinated through the OCEEA UR-CSE Program. National laboratories and research experiences at other universities are examples of organizations which have programs designed for students to acquire research experience.
