What do I need to do to get a co-op?

Visit the Office of Engineering Student Programs (OESP) in Nord 304. The Cooperative Education Program is in this office. Ask to review the curriculum sheets for your major. Co-op is scheduled at different times for different majors. This will help you determine when you should co-op. Ask for Mary Rose Tichar. You can also contact her at 368-4447 or mrt2.

What should I do when I want to Co-op?

Make an appointment for a Co-op Orientation Meeting the semester prior to when you would begin a co-op assignment. You will receive a co-op packet which includes all the necessary information you need, a text book, and an explanation of what you need to do.

  • If you want to co-op for Spring/Summer, sign up for an Orientation Meeting at the beginning of Fall semester (September). The deadline to apply is October 1st.
  • If you want to co-op for Summer/Fall, sign up for an Orientation Meeting at the beginning of Spring semester (January). The deadline to apply is February 15th.
How do I get a Co-op assignment?

The co-op staff will work closely with you in finding a challenging job in your field of study. We send out your resumes with a cover letter to prospective employers throughout the United States. Presently, we send co-op resumes to 450 companies. We also encourage students to do company research and to participate in the job search process.

What are the benefits of Co-op?

The benefits of co-op are too numerous for this page. One of the most important things to keep in mind is this: Students participate in challenging and progressive work assignments, and having work experience in your related field of study is definitely something you want on your resume! Many companies will hire a student for co-op, hoping to hire that same student for full-time work after graduation.
