The Case/Waseda Exchange
What is the Case/Waseda Exchange program?The Case / Waseda Exchange Program is designed to expose students to a different culture and language and to serve as a primer for future international experiences. Students learn the Japanese language, observe technical classes, and experience aspects of Japanese life. Who is eligible and when would I go?Undergraduate Case School of Engineering students may apply to participate in the Waseda Exchange Program, which begins in mid-May. What is the process of getting into the Case/Waseda Program?You must complete an application and engage in an interview process with the Assistant Dean of Engineering in order to be selected for the program. Also, you must have a current passport. How long does the program last?Your commitment would be for five weeks. The first week, in which you will receive an introduction to the Japanese language and culture, is spent on the Case campus. The following four weeks are spent in Japan, where you engage in a series of organized events. What if I don't know Japanese?Once enrolled in the program, you will take a one-week preparatory class, taught by Case Japanese instructors, to learn and understand the language and culture. Also, most people at Waseda speak English or comprehend written English.
Why Waseda University?Waseda, a leading engineering university, is located in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Tokyo is the most populous area of Japan and the world. This provides for a very unique, cultural learning environment for the Case student. Additionally, Waseda is the No. 2 private university in Japan for the amount of international students that attend, so Case students will be in good company. Would I be responsible for my expenses?You will pay a fee to Case for participation in the Waseda Exchange Program which includes the cost of round-trip airfare, Waseda faculty services, transportation in Japan, social and cultural activities, and many meals. You may be responsible for leisure activities, some meals, and miscellaneous traveling expenses. What else does the Waseda Program have to offer?In addition to learning a new language and culture, you will interact with Waseda engineering students and faculty, experience a homestay, and spend time touring many of Tokyos finest attractions.
