External Assessment

External assessment requires the attainment and analysis of academic assessment information from off-campus constituencies. Supervisors of Case graduates and co-op students and recent alumni are being solicited for their evaluation of the educational effectiveness of Case and its academic programs.

We want to know:

From Case alumni:
  • How would you rate your educational experience at Case?
  • Did you feel prepared to enter the workforce and/or graduate school?
  • Did the Case coursework utilize your creativity?
From supervisors of Case graduates:
  • How well did Case prepare their graduates?
  • Are Case graduates proficient at identifying and solving engineering problems?
  • Do Case students exhibit critical thinking skills?

These, and many other questions, are being asked of recent Case alumni and supervisors of Case students to assess the curriculum and preparation received at Case and the Case School of Engineering (CSE). To ensure continuous improvement of the Case curricular programs, evaluation of the academic preparation and performance of Case students is beneficial.

The external assessment process involves a three-phase plan:

General Assessment:
  • To evaluate the general qualities of the Case education, academic preparation, and experience
Program Assessment:
  • To examine and critique the whole curriculum of three different programs which will be identified each year
Assessment of Subject Areas:
  • To evaluate specific subject areas in various departments

Polling supervisors and alumni provides the opportunity for collaboration, with the University, to affect changes to the curriculum.

If you are a Case alumni who graduated with a degree in Engineering or a supervisor of Case alumni or Cooperative Education students, and are interested in participating in the assessment process, please contact the OESP Assistant Dean.
